Recently the very talented Valandar created a set of Metal Golems, which were awesome. They kindled my imagination around an idea I had been thinking up, and he released them under a derivative-friendly license so I made some modifications to create the creature I had been thinking of, and needed for an upcoming game, so I thought I would share it back to the community.
Using one of his golems as a starting point, I added various robot-esque bling, including rivets, plate lines, steam vents, Dwarven runes, spikey bits, and more to create an iron steam/magic-powered monstrosity. I also sculpted some of the etchings to be more pronounced along the surface metal, and made a few tweaks to make it more FDM-printer friendly. I cut the arms off and made them ball/socket joints for separate printing from the body. The main body prints with no supports needed, and basic slicer-made supports + a raft worked great to print the arms in the position they are rotated in the STLs.
I included a complete version as well for anybdoy who wants to brave a 1-piece print, or print in resin. Also included based (2") and unbased versions. VERY fun to paint, and hardly any post-processing needed. Pics are printed w/ .08mm layer height and painted with a mix of reaper + cheap metallic paints.
Thanks again to Valandar for the original model - be sure to follow him and toss him a tip if you like his work!
