A talented Franciscan brother, Rodd Umlauf, made a drawing of a seraph for me. After converting it to a 3d model I tried printing it in gold, but the "gold" ABS filament really didn't look all that real. I considered using a foundry to cast it into metal, but then I saw a YouTube video on gilding and decided to try it. After applying gold leaf I think it looks pretty good!
Using the concentric pattern options in Cura led to the best result. Applying a coat of acetone gives the ABS plastic a nice shiny appearance and fills in some of the imperfections left by printing. However sanding down the surface removed too much of the character.
This is still a work in progress.
